Writing is Officially Underway on Doctor Horrible 2

The (slightly) evil genius is nearer to a second outing...

Doctor Horrible being a little horrible

It’s a brand new day for Joss Whedon fans. Doctor Horrible 2 is now being written, Whedonopolis reports.

It’s the sequel to the brilliant online musical comedy with pathos, Doctor Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog, which starred Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Nathan Fillion (Firefly), Felicia Day (The Guild), and Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory), and was written by Joss Whedon, his brothers Jed and Zack, and Jed’s fiancée (now wife) Maurissa Tancharoen.

Since the untimely cancellation of Dollhouse, Joss Whedon has directed an episode of Glee (guest-starring Doctor Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris), and there have been various morsels of information about future projects he might do, but this is the first one of his own projects to be going ahead.

The intention to make a sequel was announced months ago, but without specifying a timeframe or format. Due to the busyness of those involved, only bits and pieces have been written, in between projects. Now that they’ve started the main part of the writing, hopefully it won’t be too long until the singing supervillain saga appears on our screens again (whatever kind of screens those turn out to be).

The plot details (and title) are still under wraps, but the ending of the first one leaves plenty of intriguing possibilities for where a sequel could go, storywise.

Watch this space for further details as they’re announced.
