Marvel's Agents of SHIELD gets UK return date
|NEWS - TV NEWS|
Now all we're waiting for is the return of Firefly...
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD will return to Channel 4 in the UK on Friday 14 March 2014. This is surely cause for celebration, or at least the Dance of Imminent Joy, since December's cliffhanger ending to Episode 10, The Bridge, made for a wait more painful than Melinda May's inner angst (or being at the receiving end of a Melinda May ninja move). Just about the only response to this was either practicing Tai-Chi eye-rolling, or essentially forgetting about the show altogether. "Did I fall asleep?" "For a little while..."
Although the US has had the show back for some weeks already, the UK hiatus means that now they'll be able to show the rest of the season right through without interruption.
Now we'll finally be able to find out what happened to Agent Coulson in Tahiti ("It's a magical place"), and if he was training up SHIELD battle unicorns (much more effective than brave monkeys). If not, I shall be most disappointed. (Unless Joss Whedon pulls one of his classic 'subverting expectations in a totally more awesome way than you could ever have imagined it playing out' twists. Joss Whedon shows, once they get going, are often twistier than Fitz's bowl of pretzels.)
Having said that, SHIELD kind of already have a battle unicorn, in the form of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. Unicorns are rare, noble creatures, committed to righteousness and justice and all that stuff. Traditionally, they're symbolically white, and it'll be interesting to see what happens when Marvel's red, white, and blue unicorn has to deal with the morally grey world of SHIELD in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is said to tie in with Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.
It'll be just over two weeks until we get to watch Clark Gregg, Ming-Ma Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Ian De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, et al back on our screens again, but until then, if you're looking for something Whedonesque to fill the gap, another return of beloved Whedonverse characters (albeit one which happened 8 or 9 years ago), Serenity is on ITV4 at 9pm tonight (and on ITV4 + 1 at 10pm).
