BIT.TRIP

Gaijin Games' BIT.TRIP CORE is now available on Steam, allowing PC and Mac players to get their hands on the cult-classic indie rhythm-based shooter.

The second title in the Bit.Trip series is the latest in Gaijin's collection being ported to PC and Mac. Originally released on Wiiware in 2009 and ported to Nintendo 3DS last year, BIT.TRIP CORE sees Commander Video navigating the game's dark, pixellated domain in his plus-shaped "core", collecting points by (literally) blasting beats with his ship's onboard laser to the rhythm of a collection of charming retro-inspired chiptunes.

According to the game's Steam store page: "BIT.TRIP CORE visits a darker place in CommanderVideo's saga, taking the player into unfamiliar territory as they use NES-style controls to blast their way through the barrage of Beats in this rhythm-music adventure." The game will feature, " Classic NES-Style Controls! Beautiful Boss Battles! A Thumpin' Chiptune-Inspired Soundtrack! Special Chiptune Guest Star Bubblyfish! Mind-Melting Challenges! Revealing Cutscenes!" - and with a collection like that, it's hard to fault Gaijin Games for not being too enthusiastic.

BIT.TRIP CORE is the third game in the series that has been released on Steam, following the series' original title BIT.TRIP BEAT and fan favourite pseudo-platformer BIT.TRIP RUNNER. The series' inception on desktop platforms has drastically boosted its popularity among indie game fans - Commander Video himself has appeared as a playable guest character in smash indie hit Super Meat Boy, an honor which Gaijin Games have been keen to reciprocate by featuring Team Meat's iconic character Meat Boy in the rhythm shooter BIT.TRIP FATE.

BIT.TRIP CORE can be purchased on Steam for just £6.99, or with the separately-downloadable soundtrack included for just £8.99. Additionally, the Bit.Trip collection is also available, featuring all games in the series currently available on Steam along with their respective sountracks, for just £26.96.
