"Under Sun and Sky, outlander. We greet you warmly."

A while back, we covered a list of some of the most mind-bogglingly awesome mods available for PC games, in which we reported on the then-upcoming Morrowind Graphical & Sound Overhaul project. An ambitious undertaking five years in the making, MGSO had seen two prior releases and was highly-acclaimed among the still very active modding community for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for attempting to bring the classic RPG into the modern generation. Now, version 3.0 of the Morrowind Overhaul project has been released, and fans are going wild for it.
Initially starting as a compilation project for some of the more impressive Morrowind mods out there, Morrowind Overhaul has quickly escalated into becoming one of the most extensive game reworks of all time, falling short only to projects like Black Mesa in its sheer scope and ambition. The original game's admittedly dated, muddy and murky graphics have all been considerably revamped by a collection of graphics mods all brought into working in unison in this overhaul, providing beautiful high-resolution textures, vastly improved lighting, expanded draw distance and reworked distant lands, as well as new and improved voice and audio packages.
The Morrowind Overhaul team have also streamlined the process of implementing the multitudes of mods that the package comprises. Gone are the days of arduously sorting files into data folders, correcting load orders and frustratingly dealing with conflict-related crashes - instead, the entire package comes in a single program file which automatically installs all of the overhaul's contents to your installation folder, as well as providing easy-to-configure options that can be adjusted based on your specific tastes or computer's graphical capabilities.
The Morrowind Overhaul can be downloaded from the team's project page over at Ornitocopter.net. The project's ModDB page is still awaiting approval to provide the download but the team assures us it should be available within the next few days. A direct download from the site is also available, although heavy traffic at the minute means that downloads are quite slow. A torrent magnet link has also been provided by a fan, with number of seeds and subsequent download speeds steadily rising. A huge selection of screenshots, trailers and FAQs are also available which show off some of the team's incredible work in turning a 10-year-old classic into a modern-day graphical powerhouse. An absolute must-have for fans of Oblivion and Skyrim looking to explore the series' roots with cutting-edge graphics, as well as for Morrowind fans looking to bring a breath of fresh air back into a turn-of-the-millennium masterpiece.
