Rise And Shine, Mr. Freeman...

After several years of development, Black Mesa Source has finally been given a release date for 14th September. Alongside that, it has been submitted to Steam's Greenlight community.
With the release of the game, players will be able to play up until Lambda Core, with the games finale based in the borderworld Xen been added in at a later stage. Project leader Carlos Montrero stated on the project's official forums "We believe this is a great way to provide a complete-feeling 8-10 hour experience with a solid ending, make our fans happy and help us make the best overall game possible."
The project has been in development for eight years, and began shortly after the release of Half Life Source. Fans were initially disappointed with Valve's own half-hearted adaptation of the game and decided to rebuild the classic experience from the ground up, with completely original new models, textures and animations. During the development process the project was rumoured to have died numerous times. However in the last month or so, a slew of new media has massively rejuvenated awareness and interest in the project. This has culminated in a countdown timer appearing on Black Mesa Source's homepage, counting down to the game's first official public release.

Montrero has also stated that the Xen portion of the game will also receive its own Black Mesa Source treatment, and the original game's classic multiplayer deathmatch mode will also be adapted at a future stage. The game's soundtrack, however, is already available to the public, as a pay-as-you-please download from the game's website.
Despite Steam Greenlight's recent controversies, Montrero has also been endeavouring to get the game included in Steam's library. He is eager to ease fans' concerns, however, by promising that the game will remain free-to-play on Steam and will only provide a source of updates and include regular Steam functionality such as friendlist integration and possibly achievements.
