Nicolas Cage cast in The Expendables 3; could be joined by Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, and Wesley Snipes

Stanley Goodspeed, The Man With No Name, Indiana Jones, and Blade could all be in the same movie (as well as all those other guys)...
If you thought the Expendables franchise couldn’t explode any more with testosterone, action heroes, and, um, explosions...well, you’re wrong.
Nicolas Cage has now been cast in The Expendables 3. And wait, there’s more! Talking to Total Film, producer Avi Lerner says:
“We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him. We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters].”
“And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars (will return)”
Yes, that’s right: Stanley Goodspeed, The Man With No Name, Indiana Jones, and Blade could be *in the same movie*! In addition to the already impressive cast of…as all those other guys.
And since Nicolas Cage was in Con Air, Clint Eastwood was in Firefox, Harrison Ford was in Air Force One, and Wesley Snipes was in Passenger 57, could this be Action Heroes on a Plane? They could even add Executive Decision’s Kurt Russell and Snakes on a Plane’s Samuel L. Jackson if they wanted to…
“It’s worth noting that The Expendables 3 isn’t a done deal. Lionsgate hasn’t given the third film a greenlight, but the studio will most likely continue the franchise if the upcoming sequel dominates the box office this weekend (and it probably will).”
What, you mean there’s a possibility that something this awesome might not happen? But it would be so cool, it would be crazy not to. In any case, given the first film’s box office, it’s likely that the second will do very well also, so we probably have nothing to worry about. And why would Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, or Wesley Snipes possibly *not* want to be in it?
As for Nicolas Cage’s character’s name, Total Film says:
“We’ve listened to the recording several times now, and we’re pretty sure Lerner says that Cage will be playing someone called Hunter Grimlenson. Or it could be Hunter Gatherer. Or something that has nothing to do with Hunters. You heard it here first!”
At any rate, it sounds like The Expendables 3 will continue the fine tradition of awesomely ridiculous Nicolas Cage character names. No word on if he’ll feature a wig and an enjoyably hammy, over-the-top performance, but it seems likely, especially in a franchise that embraces its cheesy 80s-ness like The Expendables does.
