Youtube and the Ghanian film industry - a match made in heaven...

5 Youtube Experiences to brighten your week...

Up high in Shadowlocked towers is my gleaming, state of the art office. There’s a cracking view up here. And within my shiny new walls I scour Youtube for clips; and unbelievably I’ve found another five crackers!

A dog that sounds like a duck (or dubstep); a reworking of a silent agency; a sneezing guest; a blockbuster movie trailer; and a short sci-fi film.

EPIC!

5. Dog sounds like a duck

I love this clip. It’s only 21 seconds long, but its shortness only adds to its mystery. Who made this? How did its owner discover how to do it? Where was it made and why? So many unanswered questions…

The fact that its short means you can never get bored of it; the clip ends just at the point where you want to hear more, you expect there to be an interesting twist or perhaps expect the dog to get a little bit angry. But no, you simply click ‘replay’ and ask those questions all over again.

4. "No...you're ground control!"

'Ground control to Major Tom'; 'We have lift off, ground control'; 'See you soon, ground control' - all famous quotes, but just who is ground control?

Like the illusive Maris Crane in Frasier, the highly documented agency never really has a face, instead serving as vocal support to the astronauts themselves. But, as The Beta Males show in this truly ingenious skit, this can put a real dampener on the otherwise joyous experience of space travel.

Oh, and if you liked what you saw, be sure to check The Beta Males out at this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival!

3. Bless you, bless you, bless you etc…

This video is adorable and hilarious. A little girl is interviewed on an American day-time show about her inability to stop sneezing, and her fellow guest on the show doesn’t seem to realise this.

How do I know this I hear you ask…. Well, he says “bless you” after every single sneeze – adorable?

2. 2016!

Here we have a trailer for the popular Ghanaian film ‘2016’. By the looks of it, this film is an absolute storm!

I have no idea when this film was made, but the special effects are horribly dated and hilariously executed. Add to that the continual reference to “T-t-t-t-twenty sixteen!” that are uttered every couple of seconds and you have a sublime trailer.

1. Short Film: The Gate

Here is a super short film about the future of human beings, in a world where 95% of our genome is completely redundant and mutants wonder the streets.

This short film isn’t short on captivating chit-chat and wonderful visual effects – check it out!
