Max Payne guns down Diablo 3
|NEWS - VIDEOGAME NEWS|
Max Payne's third outing has knocked Diablo 3 from the top of the UK sales chart...
Max Payne has entered at number 1 in the all platforms UK sales chart, edging out the stiff competition from Diablo 3.
This makes Max Payne 3 the first in the series to make it to number one, outselling Max Payne's second outing by almost 10-1 in the first week. This also marks Rockstar's first number one since La Noire.
However this news may not rest too well with some gamers, as the "official" UKIA GfK Chart does not track online sales, an area in which Diablo 3 is sure to perform well. In fact, Max Payne was only 8,000 sales ahead of Diablo, a gap that Diablo could easily close just by taking online pre-release sales into account. Despite the lack of online sales, Diablo 3 still managed to become the 12th-fastest selling PC game ever, beating back both of the last Football Manager games.
However, we should not detract too much from the achievements of Rockstar and Max Payne, it's a damn fine game, and the largest 'All Platforms Release' since Mass Effect 3. Also, it's PC version hasn't even launched yet (it comes out next week), so they may well have a few digital sales in store for themselves. We really aren't going to see an end to this discussion unless Rockstar and Blizzard both show their digital hands. However, the safe money for me is definitely in the hands of Diablo 3.
The complete UK top 10 currently looks like this:
1. Max Payne 3
2. Diablo 3
3. FIFA Street
4. Sniper Elite V2
5. FIFA 12
6. [Prototype 2]
7. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
8. Battlefield 3
9. Assassins Creed: Revelations
10. Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games
