Get your geek on...

If you're a geek and you've never been to a convention before, what kind of geek are you? you should go to one. Even in this day and age, when geekiness is celebrated and cherished the way it should be by much of society, it's still hard to beat the sheer concentration of awesomeness at a convention for geek overload. There are few experiences like nonchantly strolling around a corner and happening upon your favourite characters making their way between the different stands.

Hey, just because you're awesome doesn't mean you can't geek out about things yourself. Case in point: Joss Whedon. Not that he'll be there; he's too busy 'sleeping' and other things that are apparently important after directing one of the most record-breakingest movies of all time, The Avengers. (Yes, 'record-breakingest' is a word...now.) But even though Joss Whedon won't be there, Anthony Daniels (C-3PO from the Star Wars films) will be. (And incidentally, C-3PO almost has the ability/imprint/superpower that Joss Whedon wishes he had: the ability to speak every language.)

As well as being surrounded by all kinds of cool fictional characters, there'll also be studio presentations of footage from upcoming movies, panels on all sorts of interesting things, and stalls where you can meet comic book creators and get them to draw you things (though it sometimes costs money). Shadowlocked covered the London Comic Con MCM Expo in May last year, and we'll be there again this year.

Since the event's being held in London, the land of Sherlock Holmes and John Luther and...other London-based fictional characters (Wait...they're fictional?), it may not be accessible from everywhere in the world. Sorry, US readers (and others); unless you can fly or teleport or something, you might not be able to get there. (But if you can fly or teleport or whatever, please do. A grand entrance would not go amiss. And you'd probably win the cosplay parade, even considering some of the impressive competition from the likes of Iron Man and Skexil the Chamberlain at last year's event.)
