Ron Burgundy, complete with jazz flute, makes the official announcement on Conan...
Great and fairly unexpected news arrives from the set of Conan today, where Will Ferrell (in full Ron Burgundy outfit) officially announced that Paramount Pictures and the brain trust behind 2004 breakout hit Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy have agreed in principle to get work started on a long-awaited sequel.
No other specifics were forthcoming from 'Burgundy', who preceded the bombshell with a jazz flute serenade of the audience along with a few brief cracks at Conan's hair and makeup. ("You look like somebody stuck a red fright wig on a skeleton and threw it out of a helicopter.") After passing along the big news, Burgundy exited with another musical tune, concluding the roughly 5-minute-long segment to raucous applause. Watch it below in all its maroon-suited, mustachioed glory...
It's been a long, strange journey to Sequel City for Anchorman. In 2008, director Adam McKay was quoted by Collider as saying that he was "dying" to craft a sequel to the 2004 comedy. Two years later, to the chagrin of Adam McKay and fans, Paramount officially passed on the sequel, apparently citing lack of interest and budgetary concerns.
No word on what led to this sudden change of heart on Paramount's part, but more details will undoubtedly leap throughout the internet ether in the days and weeks to come. Until then, this writer and other lovers of the eminently-quotable newsroom farce will revel in our glass cases of emotion. Super duper!
