First offical shot of Daniel Craig as James Bond in Skyfall

NEWS - MOVIE NEWS

"That's right Mr. Bond, soon I will control all the clouds in the Sky!"...

First pictures of Daniel Craig as James Bond in Skyfall hit the web...

Having recently watched - and loved - David Fincher's powerful rendition of Stieg Larsson's Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, my love of Daniel Craig has been restored. The guy exudes class, bringing a suave and sophisticated feel to each and every performance.

However, despite his quality, I must admit I was disappointed with the last rendition of Ian Fleming's Bond, Quantum of Solace. Not so much the acting or the cinematics, but with the overall threat.

You see, Bond is the personification of class - saving the world and miraculously avoiding any form of STD simultaneously - and is as English as they come. His puns are masterful; his style is effortless; and his love-making? Intense. As such, we expect Bond to tackle criminal masterminds of equal stature, those seeking world domination, nuclear warfare, WWIII - you know, the big boys - not to waste his time with common rule-breaking (be a bit odd to see Bond giving out ASBO's - Anti Social Behaviour Orders - now wouldn't it?).

But then the plot of Quantum of Solace was revealed and we learned that Bond's nemesis, Elvis (Anatole Taubman) - the evil mastermind that he was - was corrupting the system in order to gain 60% control of Bolivia...bastard. Hang on, what do you mean it was 60% of Bolivia's water supply? Surely you're not trying to tell me that James Bond, the jewel in her Majesty's Secret Service, was being sent to stop aqua theft in a nation with under 10 million inhabitants? Oh dear...

As you'd expect, critics in their roves picked up on this unassuming danger and tore it apart, with many suggesting that perhaps it was time James Bond retreated to his country manor for a well-deserved retirement...but, as this picture shows, Daniel Craig - and of course James Bond - are back, looking as menacing as ever:

If you ask me, Craig's got a very Russian, soviet-esque look to him here, so I'm certainly hoping that he'll continue with the darker side of Bond's existence. With Academy Award® winner Sam Mendes directing, and co-starring Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Berenice Marlohe, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney and Judi Dench - who returns as M - I've certainly got high hopes for Skyfall.

Oh, and one for the diary - Skyfall releases in the UK and Ireland on the 26th October and will hit North America on November 9th.
