Star Wars Uncut is the best video on the internet

Hundreds of hilarious user submissions put a new spin on A New Hope...

Star Wars Uncut

Hey everybody, who wants to talk about Star Wars again?!? Wait, wait, wait, hold on. Where are you all going? No, come back! This time, it's something cool. Promise.

Some of you hardcore seekers of all things Star Wars may have heard about Star Wars Uncut, the crowd-sourced pastiche of A New Hope that was launched in 2009. The brainchild of web developer Casey Pugh, Star Wars Uncut invited fans from around the world to imaginatively recreate a 15-second segment of the original film, using any medium of their choice. These videos were then displayed on the SWU website and voted upon by readers and submitters. In August 2010, the segment winners were chosen and the winning entries were stitched together and hosted on Vimeo.

So why is this 15-month-old video newsworthy today? Because the version hosted on Vimeo was an awkward cycle of separately-loaded 15-second segments, prone to delays and jarring pauses in dialogue and action. Imagine trying to watch a two hour movie with hundreds of brief interruptions interspersed throughout. That problem has now been solved. Yesterday, it was announced that a final 'director's cut' version of Star Wars Uncut had been finished and posted on YouTube. The pauses are gone, the circle is now complete, and Star Wars Uncut is finally available to watch as one stand-alone 'film' in all of its incredible nerdy glory.

And here it is. Beautiful beyond measure. Believe me - I haven't done the final product justice in my above description, nor is it realistically possible to do so. The segments range from dreadfully terrible to terribly genius in their quality, with a new angle, approach, and surprise every 15 seconds. There are stop motion scenes, Lego figures, bad acting, kids, animals, cartoons... It's hard to describe the jawdropping geek awesomeness contained herein. I'll shut up now, so you can see it for yourself. You're welcome.
