The Darkness 2: The Brotherhood Trailer

NEWS - VIDEOGAME NEWS

Get ready to let The Darkness in... Again...

Few people mention The Darkness these days, which is a shame really. Back in 2007 the game arrived to only a minor fanfare, and although it got glowing reviews from almost everyone, sales stayed fairly unremarkable.

Despite slightly disappointing sales figures, The Darkness found a loyal following in a number of fans and critics, who applauded the games dark and gritty feel, intense and substantial combat and its faithfulness to the graphic novel it was based upon.

Now though, we are being teased with details of the sequel, inventively titled "The Darkness 2". The sequel looks to be keeping the style and atmosphere of the game the same as its predecessor, and not making too many dangerous departures from the blueprint of the original, a safe tactic that is sure to keep the long time fans happy.

There are a couple of things that they have changed though. Most notably of these is the new "Quad-Wielding" system, allowing you to use your two Darkness tentacles at the same time as two guns. The Darklings (smart talking gremlins you can summon to do your bidding) are returning from the first game, and have also been changed slightly, with only one key Darkling on offer, who becomes more involved in the storyline, and can wield a number of weapons, including conventional guns.

Originally scheduled for release in 2011, The Darkness 2 has been pushed back until February 2012, but this date will probably move as well. But whenever it actually comes out, hopes are reasonably high for the game, and if Digital Extremes and 2K Games can pull it off, it could be a very welcome antidote to the new-years blues.
