It begins by leaving you stranded...

A new cinematic for the upcoming and much anticipated Gears of War 3 has just emerged on the web, and it is definitely worth a look.

The sequence brings newcomers to the series up to date with events of the first two games, and fills out the time between the second and third instalments for those that have been following the Gears more closely. There doesn't seem to be any spoilers in the video, so no need to worry about having a look below:

The basic synopsis of the video is that 18 months after the fall of Jacincto the C.O.G has disbanded, and the last remaining stranded are living on the remote island of Vectes. The remaining Gears inhabit "The Ravens Nest", a huge converted aircraft carrier. After Jacincto's fall, they had thought the war was won, but the infectious mutations caused by the imulsion have created a new threat to both the Locoust and Humans, The Lambent.

Other details that have appeared for the game have confirmed a number of female characters, along with a host of new enemies, vehicles and weapons. Fan favourite Carmine is also returning for a third reincarnation, again as another brother in the family. Interestingly though, this time his fate has been decided by fans in a poll based on the sales of t-shirts for Xbox live avatars.

If the stellar quality of the first two games is anything to go by, then we have a lot to look forward too with Gears of War 3. I was able to try out the games multiplayer modes at the recent Gadget Show: Live, and I was very impressed with the whole experience. They have managed to retain the weighty and purposeful feeling of the first two games controls, but other moves have been made to streamline the combat. The result is that the combat is fast paced and frantic, whilst continuing the game's heavy and realistic feel, which is sure to leave you feeling very connected to the Gear you are controlling. If the story holds up as well as the multiplayer, Gears 3 is going to be epic.
