Depp to bring the Vault comic out of the comic vault

And possibly returns to high-seas adventure...
Johnny Depp's film production company, Infinitum Nihil, is planning on bringing new comic The Vault to the big screen. They will do so in partnership with Graham King's company GK Films, who just picked up the rights to the comic. Infinitum Nihil recently partnered with GK Films on the hilarious animated western Rango, starring Depp as the new sheriff / lizard in town.
The Vault, a comic mini-series planned for three issues, just published the first installment of the story this week. The story involves a group of deep-sea divers who unearth a mysterious sarcophagus off the coast of Nova Scotia with disastrous results. The ominous cover, above, with a grinning skull leering over a diver underwater, brings to mind James Cameron's classic The Abyss, although it's reported that there are elements of the metaphysical (angels vs. demons) in the story as well. The Vault was written by Sam Sarkar and illustrated by Garrie Gastonny, the team that created the western comic Caliber: First Canon of Justice for Excalibur comics.
There is no word yet as to whether Depp will appear in the film, but it will obviously be a project close to his heart. The writer for the comic, Sam Sarkar, is an executive at Depp's Infinitum Nihil production company; and the multi-talented Sarkar was also an actor in the late 80's / early 90's who appeared in an episode of 21 Jump Street with Depp back in 1989.
GK Films is also the production company behind Martin Scorsese's Hugo, (formerly Hugo Cabret), set to be released in November of this year.
