New trailer for Driver: San Francisco

Sure it looks good, but can Driver: San Francisco do justice to its PlayStation predecessors?...

Who doesn't remember Driver? Despite its unassuming title, the game redefined PlayStation gaming, and was a must for every owner of the Sony console. In it, you played Tanner, an NYPD detective gone undercover to infiltrate a number of gang syndicates. To gain their trust, Tanner - and obviously you, the gamer - would be given a number of increasingly difficult missions, ranging from jumping through windows, pursuing other vehicles or generally causing a mess, in the hope of gaining the trust of your corrupt employer.
Then, just a mere two years later, Driver 2 tail-spun its way onto the PlayStation. However, unlike its predecessor, much excitement surrounded its release due to the fact that, for the first time, gamers could get out of their cars...and walk! Oh yes, these were simpler times; times when gamers were more excited about a game's free-roam nature (well, if getting out of one car, walking around, then getting into another counts as free-roam) than they were about its graphics.
So, when it was announced that Ubisoft Reflections (same company, but now the result of a buy-out) would be releasing a new addition to the franchise - Driver: San Francisco - gamers got excited. Who knows, maybe this time you could read a newspaper, or give a hobo some change - the possibilities really are endless. Yet, for long-term veterans of the 13 year franchise, Driver: San Francisco has a lot to prove, especially after the failings of the last Driver series, Driv3r ( a stupid name for a stupid game...figures).
While Ubisoft Reflections have hinted at as many as 11 multi-player modes, this trailer only shows us three - Tag, Shift Racing and Takedown:
It's going to be an interesting couple of months in the run up to Driver: San Francisco's frequently delayed release date, believed now to be the 6th September 2011. However, early signs look good, so let's just hope the rest of the game doesn't fall short...
