5 YouTube experiences to brighten your week #7
| LISTS - OTHER LISTS |
There's more than just Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black on YouTube you know...

There isn’t a scent of culinary creation in this edition of ‘5 YouTube Experiences to Brighten Your Week’. Not even a taste. Instead, I have gone for hand-drawn headlines, some charming children, a magical meme, surprising soldiers and internet beauty-therapists. And yes, I realised the latter lacked alliteration, but alas!
Away we go….
5. Newspaper Headlines from The Simpsons
The best things in life are often the simplest, or so the saying goes. This clip couldn’t be any simpler. It is a collection of all the newspaper headlines from everybody’s favourite comedy cartoon, The Simpsons. These nuggets of humour are usually overlooked, mostly because they flick on and off the screen in seconds. Now imagine my delight at discovering this gem, allowing me to pause and revel in the witty and irreverent humour of Matt Groening for as long as I desired.
4. The Little Team
I showed this to a friend a few days ago and his response was “this is just brilliant!” and so I put it in this list, hoping to get the same reaction from our readers. The little team in question here is Margatania F.C., a children’s football team based in Spain. We are treated to interviews from the players and supporters of this team which, as of yet, have yet to score a single goal. Yet despite this lack of success, the team and all associated with it couldn’t be happier. It is ten minutes of wondrous childhood wisdom.
“We don’t care if we don’t score, because we have fun. We’ll score when we grow old”
3. Hey Guys!
Insecurity is a widespread problem, and it seems that the denizens of YouTube are fighting back, through the ever-increasing number of ‘YouTube Beauty Gurus’. Now I don’t have anything against them and I’m sure they all have altruistic intentions but regardless, this clip underlines one of their shared qualities. And I warn you... it’s quite funny.
If you ever post a video to Youtube, for whatever reason, just promise me you won’t begin it with “Hey guys!”
2. Trolling Saruman
Take the internet phenomenon that is the ‘Trolololol’ song and couple it with Lord of the Rings and you get this fine clip: Trolling Saruman. Since I stumbled upon it three days ago it has been trending across all platforms and at the time of writing, has racked up 2.5 million views.
You’ll never watch Gandalf’s return to Isengard again without humming a certain tune.
1. Soldiers Surprising Their Loved Ones
Words cannot describe the sheer joy captured in this clip; it felt almost as if I shouldn’t be allowed to watch. The moments of vulnerability, ecstasy and peace shared by the returning soldiers and their loved ones feels like an inappropriate subject for a YouTube video. However, it shows us civilians one of the many sacrifices our soldiers have to make in order to serve and protect. Perhaps, therefore, it is worth watching.
