Black Ops "Annihilation" map pack finally set for PS3

Annihilation finally makes its way to the PS3 - a full month after its Xbox 360 release date...

Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation map pack finally arrives on PS3

While it may not be an exclusive, the Call of Duty: Black Ops map-packs would certainly make any self-respecting PS3 owner think so. Time and time again, Black Ops continues to turn a blind eye to Sony's next-generation console, instead favouring the lure of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and their collective online audience of 20+ million.

First it was First Strike - the original DLC add-on for Black Ops - which débuted on the 2nd February, 2011, before making its way to the PS3 on the 3rd March. Similarly, Escalation joined its predecessor on Xbox Live on the 3rd May, with PS3 gamers having to wait until the 10th June before they could purchase it. And finally there is Annihilation, the most recent - and some say final DLC release before MW3. While 360 owners have spent the last month tangling with three new types of zombie - the zombie monkey, the shrieker zombie and the napalm zombie - PS3 users are still waiting. However, thanks to the latest press release from Activision, I can now reveal that the Annihilation map pack will be available on the PSN come the 28th July.

The Annihilation map-pack brings four new multiplayer maps and a new zombie hunter level, much to the delight of all zombie-driven fans. These four maps are called Hangar 18, Drive-In, Silo, and Hazard. The zombie level is known as the Shangri-La, and has been described by Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia as an “exotic and mysterious map filled with deadly traps, dark secrets, and innovative gameplay that will challenge even the most daring Zombie hunters.”

Still not convinced? Well why not check out the video preview here:

Annihilation will be priced at £10.99 following its release and, as is now customary for Black Ops releases, this following weekend will be a double XP weekend. So, welcome back PS3 - do let us 360 users know if you need any help...
