Sarah Michelle Gellar's new show a Ringer?
|NEWS - TV NEWS|
Double the Buffy, double the fun!
If Sarah Michelle Gellar is on The CW on Tuesday nights, at 9 pm (8, central and mountain time), does that mean that Dawn is in trouble? When SMG's Buffy the Vampire Slayer was on The WB (The CW's precursor), that was the air time and day for the show; today, The CW announced that Ringer, her highly-anticipated return to television, would air on the same channel, same time and day. (Same Buffy-time, same Buffy-channel...) It's like a beautiful flashback, as if the last eight years didn't even happen. (Nine, if you disregard the final season of Buffy, as many fans would recommend!)
The CW also released a promotional video for the show. The premise is interesting: Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Bridget, a troubled young woman on the run from the mob, who assumes the life of her wealthy socialite twin Siobahn, also played by SMG. Check out the preview below:
So why is SMG returning to TV after an eight-year absence? In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she said, ”I have the greatest fans in the world, and I loved my show ... I want to honor those people who were so good to me and show them something worthy of their time and worthy of them. I think it was worth the wait.” She also appreciates the fact that she is able to find a comfortable work-life balance while working on Ringer. She has a young daughter with her husband, Freddie Prinze, Jr.; and two of her costars (Ioan Gruffudd and Kristoffer Polaha) have babies as well. “We’re a show of all young parents, and we’ve made it so that the babies feel just as welcome as we do,” she told tvline.com. “It’s really been a nice environment.”
[Spoilers for The Sixth Sense follow]
Finally, Gellar talked up the show itself, commending it for having plot twists that even she found unpredictable. “[I am] the person who in the middle of The Sixth Sense yelled out, ‘Oh my, God! He’s dead!’ Usually I see it coming, and I didn’t see [these] coming."Ringer will air on Tuesday nights this fall, alongside 90210. Why? Who knows. Who cares. SMG is back!
