Terra Nova Trailer: Here
|NEWS - TV NEWS|
The Lost World is found once more ...
Terra Nova, one of the more interesting TV shows in Fox's fall lineup so far, centers on the Shannons, a family from the future. In this dystopic vision of 2149 A.D., our planet is suffering from overpopulation, and the exhaustion of natural resources. Several people, including the Shannons, are sent back in time to a settlement on prehistoric earth; to recreate society and to try to prevent the difficulites of the future from ever occurring. With any luck, they will avoid any Back-to-the-Future-ish hijinks along the way; after all, the 'Under the Sea' dance would be an entirely different affair 85 million years ago.
Fox has only been releasing information about Terra Nova in bits and pieces - just enough to keep us interested. The trailer released today shows the first glimpse of actual dinosaurs; and they look pretty good! Check out the trailer below:
Writer / executive producer Craig Silverstein has TV experience on Bones and Nikita; writer / producer Kelly Marcel founded the Bad Dog Theater Company in London with Brett C. Leonard and actor Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises). It was originally set to premiere in the summer of 2011, but in March Fox announced a delay. In a press release, Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment for Fox, stated that the delay was the result of the station's confidence in the show, and commitment to getting the visual effects as good as they can possibly be. “Terra Nova is one of the most ambitious television series ever produced,” said Reilly. “The cutting-edge visual effects used to create the world of Terra Nova, which is of massive scope and scale, require more time to be realized. This aspect of the series is essential, so we are pushing back the special early preview date to give the visual effects team the time needed for their ground-breaking work.”
Terra Nova looks like an interesting blend of sci-fi alien world colonization stories, and visually-stunning, prehistoric-dinosaur effects-heavy over-hyphenization. The proof of the series, as with all sci-fi successes, can be traced to the greater story, the characterizations and plot lines that follow. No matter how beautiful, amazing dinosaur special effects are only going to take you so far. But the story looks great as well. According to the Fox website, "while Terra Nova is a place of new opportunities and fresh beginnings, all is not as idyllic as it initially appears. ...The surrounding terrain is teeming with danger – and not just of the man-eating dinosaur variety. There is also a splinter colony of renegades ... and the chilling possibility that something sinister is happening inside Terra Nova." Terra Nova stars Irish actor Jason O'Mara (Monarch of the Glen, Life on Mars (US)) and Shelley Conn (Marchlands) and will air in the fall of 2011.
