Immortals trailer finally hits the web
| NEWS - MOVIE NEWS |
While the release of the Immortals trailer is certainly impressive, all eyes will surely be on Henry Cavill as he undertakes his first lead role prior to his upcoming take on Superman...

The first trailer for the swords and sorcery epic Immortals has been released. The film stars Henry Cavill, soon to be the new Superman, as well as Mickey Rourke and Freida Pinto. The action is set in ancient Greece during the reign of the evil King Hyperion, played by Mickey Rourke. Cavill plays stonesmason Theseus, who challenges Hyperion’s tyrannical rule when his mother is killed by one of the King’s guards. After finding, and subsequently using, a mythic weapon (a bow to be precise), our hero Theseus uses it in a mission to destroy Hyperion.
The film resonates within a number of recent action epics that have used ancient Greek history as their foundation, namely - and most recently - Clash of the Titans. As the trailer states, Immortals is from the producers of 300 and certainly bears the hallmarks of Zack Snyder’s gruesome blockbuster, including the over-the-top use of CGI and slo-mo set-pieces.
Little is mentioned about the director, Tarsem Singh, who showed a unique visual style to all in his debut film, the dire Jenifer Lopez-led thriller The Cell, and in his critically acclaimed follow-up The Fall. There are hints towards Singh’s striking colourful imagery in the trailer, in particular the red outfits worn by the female characters and the gold armour of the male soldiers.
Despite boasting a decent cast, all eyes will be on Henry Cavill in his first lead role. The actor has some huge shoes to fill as Clark Kent/Superman in Zack Snyder’s upcoming reboot of the flailing franchise. With this in mind, many will view Immortals as Cavill's chance to prove his worth as a credible successor to Christopher Reeve, and as the right choice to cast off the bad impression left by Brandon Routh in Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns.
Whether or not Immortals will emulate the box office success of Clash of the Titans and 300 remains to be seen but, from what we are shown in the trailer, it certainly looks appealing. The film itself will be released, in 3D, on 11th November 2011.
