With Selina Kyle already set, could be Batman now has two new bad romantic choices to ponder...

Warner Bros has announced the official casting of Marion Cotillard and Joseph-Gordon Levitt in Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises. Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, described as a board member at Wayne Industries eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne recommence his father’s benevolent endeavours for Gotham. This pegs her as a potential love interest for the caped crusader.
Meanwhile, Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop allocated special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon, played by Gary Oldman. The two actors were formally cast in January leading to an exhaustive amount of speculation over their possible roles. Initially it was thought that Gordon-Levitt would play a villain, with the popular opinion being that he was cast as The Riddler. Once Nolan himself quashed that rumour, it was then claimed that he would play Alberto Falcone, the son of Tom Wilkinson's Carmine Falcone.
However, that has also turned out to be a misconception with the actor now playing what looks to be a positive figure. Marion Cotillard on the other hand was thought to be playing Talia Al Ghul, the daughter of Liam Neeson’s Ra’s Al Ghul from Batman Begins. This rumour was given further credence when Josh Pence was recently cast as a young Ra’s in The Dark Knight Rises, appearing only in flashbacks.
However, it looks like Nolan’s turned tricks on everyone once again as Cotillard is also playing what looks to be a positive role in the film.
Both Gordon-Levitt and Cotillard appeared in Nolan’s 2010 blockbuster Inception. They join Anne Hathaway (playing Selina Kyle) and fellow Inception co-star Tom Hardy (playing the villain Bane), who were also formally cast in January.
