Sunjata, Gorman to join Dark Knight Rises

Rescue Me star joins the cast as a good guy ...
Christopher Nolan is rounding out the cast for The Dark Knight Rises, his third and final Batman film, and the news keeps getting better! The latest to join the cast officially are Daniel Sunjata (Rescue Me), Diego Klattenhoff (Mercy) and Burn Gorman (Torchwood). While Sunjata is best known for his role as the womanizing FDNY firefighter Franco Rivera, he's also had recurring roles on Law and Order: SVU and Grey's Anatomy. If you're not a fan of serialized TV dramas, you may recognize Sunjata from the films The Devil Wears Prada, or Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Sunjata will reunite with the star of The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway, for the new Batman film; Ms. Hathaway has signed on to play Selena Kyle / Catwoman.
There is no confirmation thus far of which role Sunjata will play, although Variety reports that he will play "a courageous special forces operative". Klattenhoff and Gorman have signed on for smaller roles, the former as "a rookie cop who is looking to make a difference", and the latter probably as a law enforcement officer as well. To add to that speculation, Josh Pence (The Social Network) has been cast as well, for an unconfirmed role. Speculation abounds, however, that he will play a young Ra's al Ghul in a flashback sequence, perhaps to set up the relationship between Bats and Marion Cotillard's Talia al Ghul. There's still no definitive word on Cotillard's role at this time, although it's widely assumed that she will play Talia al Ghul, but the guessing is half the fun.
The latest cast members will join Christian Bale as Batman, Anne Hathaway as Selena Kyle and Tom Hardy as Bane; and Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whose roles are yet to be announced. While there is a lot of faith in Nolan's Batman - his first two films were arguably the best representations of a superhero saga to date - let's hope that the additions to the cast don't bring about a lack of focus in the story. That was one of the major problems with Spider-Man 3; it suffered from too many bad guys, which caused the story to lose focus and intensity. If Batman is going up against Bane, Catwoman, Talia al Ghul and possibly a Falcone, how can it present a coherent story? If anyone can do it, it will be Nolan; but it will be a feat to accomplish to the high standard fans have come to expect.
