Smallville: first look at Booster Gold and Blue Beetle
|NEWS - TV NEWS|
The crowd is gathering for the dénouement of the early years of the Man Of Steel...
As reported here earlier, two of DC Comics’ fan favorites – Booster Gold and Blue Beetle – will make an appearance on Smallville. The episode, 'Booster' is scheduled to air on April 22, and is directed by none other than Clark Kent himself, Tom Welling. We have the first official picture of the pair of heroes as they will appear on the episode.
According to Eric Martsoff, the actor portraying Booster Gold:
'The episode takes place in Booster's very early stages where he's at his conceited best, where he believes he can do whatever he wants. He's gonna stay for the photo op and bask in the glory of his heroic efforts. [The episode is] rich in comic book history, but it's also a vehicle for Clark to start to embrace the marketability of Superman and what he could potentially be.'
The episode is penned by Geoff Johns, who has written the previous Smallville episodes ‘Absolute Justice' and 'Legion'. Johns has also written for Robot Chicken, Justice League, and Blade: The Series, as well as for the upcoming direct-to-DVD Green Lantern: Emerald Knights for Warner Premiere. He is better known, however, for his contributions to the world of comic books, having worked on many of the top DC titles, as well as the recent comics event Blackest Knight, which involved a personified force of death resurrecting deceased superheroes in order to eliminate all life and emotion from the universe. He has been DC’s Chief Creative Officer since February 2010. Johns is quoted:
"The one thing Booster does prove to Clark is that people want to look up to this guy. They want to be inspired, and no one's doing it for them. This guy always shows up at the last second to make a dramatic rescue, which is really suspect.'"
Booster will fly in the face of Clark’s beliefs, especially with his recent decision to make himself out as the 'mild mannered reporter' we all remember from the comics. Also in the episode will be Jamie Reyes (Jaren Brandt Bartlett), a teenager saved by Booster. He eventually comes in contact with the scarab, which at first becomes heavy, bulky armor. "Ultimately he'll gain more control over the scarab and it will become more friendly looking." says Johns. Another Blue Beetle will also appear, Ted Kord. How Reyes winds up with the scarab will have to be seen.
This will be the last batch of new episodes before we say goodbye to this series, and it looks like the producers are looking to go out with a bang. New episodes will begin again on April 15.
