Super 8 full-length trailer debuts

Film fans get a closer look at secretive Abrams & Spielberg project...

In what may be a first for a prominent wide-release, and a nod towards the ever-increasing scope of the contemporary spider-web of social networks, Paramount Pictures has released the first full-length trailer for upcoming sci-fi blockbuster Super 8 on Twitter.
Speculation has run rampant for months regarding the film, written and directed by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Cloverfield), and produced by Steven Spielberg. Initially thought be be tied to 2008's monster movie Cloverfield, a rumor flatly denied by Abrams, Super 8's first teaser was broadcast during the Super Bowl. Its brief images of a mysterious train derailment and a group of kids have been somewhat fleshed out in this two-minute trailer, which appears to both pay homage to and lift imagery from such great science fiction classics as Spielberg's own films E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (it's no accident that Amblin's E.T. logo is prominently featured in the trailer's lead-up), as well as the adolescent camaraderie of Stand By Me.
As the upcoming film is firmly amongst the most hotly anticipated titles of the year, let's hope that Abrams and Spielberg have once again caught lightning in a bottle. Personally, and although it is difficult to judge an entire movie's merits from a two-minute spot, our first extended look is quite promising indeed...
Super 8 will open in theaters on June 10.
