Cary Elwes cast in TV's Wonder Woman remake

NEWS - TV NEWS

There's a shortage of perfect breasts in the world...but not on this show!

Cary Elwes cast in Wonder Woman pilot? Inconceivable!

In the latest news for TV's Wonder Woman comes a report that Cary Elwes will be joining the cast. Elwes, best known as Westley from The Princess Bride (at least in this house!) will be joining the cast as the CEO of Dianna Prince's company, Themyscria Industries. According to Entertainment Weekly, he may be in line to be Prince's love interest as well.

Elwes has a long history of offbeat roles, covering many different aspects of cinema. He has hit comedy (The Princess Bride, Hot Shots!, Liar Liar), thriller (The Crush, Kiss The Girls), horror (Dracula, Saw) and even animation - starring as George Harrison in the 3D animated Yellow Submarine, due out next year. For such a versatile actor, he has thus far resisted a recurring role on TV, at least since 2001 when he appeared on several episodes of The X-Files. And let us not forget, as stated in Robin Hood: Men In Tights - he can speak with an English accent!

This news comes hot on the heels of the announcement yesterday that Elizabeth Hurley (Bedazzled) and Tracie Thoms (Rent, The Devil Wears Prada) will be appearing in Wonder Woman as well. Hurley signed on to play a villain, Veronica Cale, a scientist who owns a pharmaceutical company. On her Twitter feed yesterday, Hurley said, "Thrilled to be doing the pilot Wonder Woman. Playing the evil villain. Can't wait." Apparently she needs to get her visa issues ironed out for it to be a recurring role, but she is definitely on for the pilot.

Thoms has accepted a recurring role as Diana's personal assistant, Etta Candy. In the comic, the personal assistant ranged in interpretations from a one-note overweight comic relief role, to a former soldier and sidekick in her own right. Thoms, best known as Joanne in the movie version of Rent, also had a recurring role on TV's Cold Case. If she can bring her tough-girl characteristics to the role on Wonder Woman, it will be TV worth watching.
