Bring on the lasso of truth...

Adrianne Palicki is the new Wonder Woman

Adrianne Palicki has been confirmed as NBC's new Wonder Woman, according to Deadline. Palicki is best known for recurring roles on Supernatural and Friday Night Lights, and recently received critical acclaim for her role in the short-lived TV series Lone Star. She was on the big screen in Legion, and also recently completed shooting for the female lead role in the remake of Red Dawn, due out later this year.

Palicki will take on the role of Diana Prince / Wonder Woman in the new TV series, a re-imagining of the iconic 1970's series from writer / producer David E. Kelley. Kelley is known for quality - he has created series from Ally McBeal to Picket Fences, from The Practice to Boston Legal. Each of these shows was masterful in blending comedy with drama, and using quirky characters to tap into the cultural zeitgeist. How well the quirkiness of those characters will play in the superhero format remains to be seen.

You can rule out a quirky sidekick, though - apparently, in Kelley's re-imagining of the series, Palicki will take on three separate aspects of the Wonder Woman role: she will be the vigilante superhero Wonder Woman; her public face, Diana Themiscyira, a billionairess-corporate-wunderkind; and the her alter-ego and assistant, Diana Prince. (Vegas should be taking bets on whether the assistant will feature glasses in her wardrobe. What are the odds?)

Jeffrey Reiner, who directed the pilot episode of Caprica, is also on board as the director of the pilot. Reiner directed several episodes of Friday Night Lights, meaning he has worked with Adrianne Palicki before. Right now, Palicki is the only cast member confirmed for the show; but if they are making choices this interesting for the lead, there may be hope for the Wonder Woman TV series yet.
