Rosenbaum Returns to Smallville

He's bad. He's bald. He's back.
After hearing a lot of chin-wagging on his part about not wanting to return to the pre-Superman comic book drama, Michael Rosenbaum has finally signed on to return as Lex Luthor for the series finale to air on May 13th. According to Smallville executive producers/showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson:
"It feels like the stars are aligning, literally. We couldn't be more excited about having Michael back. And as far as the way he returns … there'll be no doubt about how Lex becomes the great rival in Clark Kent's life. He is the villain of the story.”
Rosenbaum, whose presence on the show has been sorely missed since his last appearance in the season 8 episode “Arctic” (the role of Lex has been played by other actors since his departure), started on Smallville right at the beginning, originally becoming friends and something of an older brother to Tom Welling’s Clark Kent. Those who questioned the idea of the two being friends needed only read Golden Age Superboy comics to see how Lex and Clark were at one point childhood chums, albeit in a different existence (one of the many DC Earths, for those not up on the comic book multiverses). No stranger to DC characters, Rosenbaum also voiced The Flash and Deadshot on the popular Justice League animated series, and has had cameos on several other DC-based series.
According to Rosenbaum, "I'm simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is. I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness and even their threats. Ha ha. I can't wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all of my old friends once again..... Oh, and for Lex to become the badass he's destined to be."
There is no doubt that this will be the best sendoff this series could have. So far this season, we’ve seen Lex grow up from a young child to a teen, and at one point, Luthercorp scientists found a serum that would save his life. I’m sure that will be coming in to play, as well as Lex’s new found amnesia, which will keep him from remembering that Clark is Superman (Lex has found out Clark’s secret several times over the years, and each time he’s wound up having those memories erased). Either way, Smallville seems to be gearing up to go out with a bang. I hope the rest of the season can live up to everyone’s expectations.
