The Lovers' Guide 3D DVD review

It was bound to come eventually.

The Lovers' Guide 3D

I’m not really sure where to start with this review, apart from giving you a warning that this piece may contain words like ‘anal’, and ‘masturbation’, and those of you with a nervous disposition should look away now.

The Lovers' Guide, Igniting Desire does exactly what it claims on the cover. It reminds the viewer of the importance of romance, affection, appreciation and of the things that you tend to forget about when you’ve been in a relationship for a long time.

Its primary aim is to give people back their spark when things are a bit tired, and while this DVD offers a lot of advice and tips to spice things up again, please forgive the cynic in me when I say it’s hard to see how it can really make a big difference when a lot of relationship problems take a long time to develop, and an even longer time to fix. That said, there’s absolutely no harm in trying.

And on a far more positive note, The Lovers' Guide has completely modernised how we as a nation feel about sex with its efforts to tackle a really big issue that a lot of couples face today – keeping a fulfilling sex-life going; extremely relevant, with the high divorce rate in Britain today. A bad sex life is bound to be a contributing factor to this.

It also brings to the forefront things that once would have been seen as frankly, quite disgusting (for instance, anal sex), and makes it okay to talk about them without making you feel dirty. At the same time it doesn’t forget the simple things like flirting, kissing and masturbation (I thought I would lull you into a false sense of security by waiting until now to throw that one in). With an increasingly sexually-advanced and modern viewpoint, it’s only right that these things are discussed, and our opinions and preconceptions challenged.

The Lovers' Guide does have some comedy moments, my particular favourite being the tip ‘Love bites are best avoided after your teens’, and in places it was particularly corny; but that may be more to do with the release being an educational programme than anything else; unless the material is approached in this light occasionally, it might risk to descend into a mere porn video.

I’m not entirely sure 3D is the way to go with an educational DVD about sex, (think along the lines of bits coming out at you everywhere), but whatever turns you on. In any case, everyone is jumping on the 3D bandwagon these days anyway so it wouldn’t be right to discount that aspect of this DVD.

The Lovers' Guide should not be watched alone; it’s designed for couples and is best viewed that way. I, on the other hand, watched it by myself and just a word of advice - there is no good place to pause it, unless it’s right at the beginning. And don’t watch it if you live with others who might come home in the middle of it, to save some serious embarrassment – thanks dad.

In a nutshell, this DVD is great for couples and ideal for a cosy night in - who said romance was dead?
