The Black Swan continues to fly high within the UK...
As if twelve BAFTA and five Oscar nominations - both of which include nominations for Best Picture and Best Actress - weren't enough, Black Swan has now broken the internal box office records of Fox Searchlight, becoming the company's most successful UK and Ireland release of all time. The film - which has opened in 356 cinemas across the UK - is believed to have pulled in £2.76 million in its opening weekend; beating Fox Searchlight's previous successes Juno (£2 million) and The Full Monty (£1.59 million) into second and third place respectively.
Cameron Saunders, Managing Director of Twentieth Century Fox UK Theatrical, commented: "Black Swan’s opening weekend clearly demonstrates the appetite of the cinema-going public for bold, creative and visionary filmmaking and we’re delighted to have helped make the opening of this extraordinary movie so successful".
Featuring the unique acting talents of Natalie Portman (V for Vendetta, Leon) and Mila Kunis (The Book of Eli, Family Guy), Black Swan looks set to become the latest award-winning masterpiece of now legendary director Darren Aronofsky; a director whose impressive CV already boasts such favourites as Requiem for a Dream and Mickey Rourke's comeback classic, The Wrestler.
