Battle: Los Angeles international trailer

NEWS - MOVIE NEWS

It's not the end of the world. Or is it?

Battle: Los Angeles (2011)

Looking more like Steven Spielberg's 2005 War Of The Worlds than Roland Emmerich's Independence Day comes Jonathan Liebesman's Battle: Los Angeles, wherein alien invaders strike down upon Earth with great vengeance and furious anger in what at first appear to be meteorites. The ugly truth soon becomes clear, however. The previous international trailer gave us a flavour of the movie, but the new one really shows off some great VFX work, and even if neither the theme nor the execution of the project seem particularly original in scope, it looks like a romp - and Aaron Eckhart is always worth watching.

The film also features Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and Michael Peña, and was shot, it seems, with the full co-operation of the US marine corps - so we're unlikely to be seeing any anti-governmental messages. Is this an early sign of a return to the pro-government SF movies of the Clinton years (such as Independence Day), now that the memory of the Bush administration is beginning to recede...? Or maybe it's just good old pop-corn fodder.

Either way, here's the trailer...
