Stiller confirms Zoolander 2
|NEWS - MOVIE NEWS|
If they do Dodgeball 2 next, I'll die happy!
Ben Stiller, hot off the release of the second follow-up to the 2000 hit Meet the Parents, announced in an interview with Empire Magazine that not only is Zoolander 2 in the works, the script has been completed and turned into the studio. Stiller co-wrote the script with Justin Theroux, who played the evil DJ in the first Zoolander and worked with Stiller on the script for Tropic Thunder.
According to Stiller, Zoolander 2 will take place 10 years after the events of the first Zoolander, with the characters dealing with major life changes, using (I'm sure) their hilariously limited understanding to full advantage. Derek Zoolander will of course be played by Ben Stiller; Owen Wilson will return as Hansel; and Will Ferrell has been written in and expressed interest in returning as bad guy Mugatu. As Stiller said, "I think Mugatu is an integral part of the Zoolander story so yes, he figures in a big way." Jonah Hill will apparently be joining the cast as well, as a character TBD.
It's great to hear that the main supporting characters will return, but how about the rest of the fantastic supporting cast? Stay tuned for news on whether or not Zoolander 2 will be a family affair like the first one, with Stiller's wife, Christine Taylor, or his father, Jerry Stiller, returning in their supporting roles. If Mugatu's back, we also need to see Milla Jovovich and Justin Theroux return as bad-guy sidekicks; and David Bowie to judge another walk-off. How about actors with small roles whose careers have since skyrocketed - Alexander Skarsgaard, who played his Russian roommate and is now one of the best reasons to watch True Blood; or Judah Friedlander who played Derek's brother Scrappy and is now starring in the hilarious 30 Rock?
My god, it's beautiful!
