Latest Hobbit cast signing is... Elijah Wood?
| NEWS - MOVIE NEWS |
Frodo's inclusion the most recent bit of curious Middle-Earth news...

Continuing the 'never a dull moment' pattern of the soap opera that has been The Hobbit's pre-production, Cinema Blend reports that the recent rumour of Elijah Wood possibly reprising his role as Frodo Baggins in the upcoming epic is no longer just a possibility. Wood's agent has confirmed that the actor has officially signed on to return to Middle-Earth.
The news will undoubtedly raise the eyebrows of those familiar with the original novel, as the events of The Hobbit occur well before Frodo is born. Rampant speculation will be a given regarding this casting choice, but as inserting Frodo into the story itself is all but impossible, it would seem that Wood has been tapped to either deliver a Galadriel-esque introduction voiceover, a la Cate Blanchett in Lord of the Rings, or appear towards the conclusion of the second Hobbit installment as a way to tie the two novel adaptations together.
The Wood signing is especially interesting in that two major co-stars that actually are written into both novels, Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Andy Serkis as Gollum, both expressed interest in continuing their respective parts in the upcoming films many months ago, but their participation in The Hobbit has not been finalized. Filming for the two-part adaptation is slated to begin next month.
