The Search For Santa Paws DVD review

Disney return to the kind of fare we most expect from them, and do so in classic style...

Disney's 'The Search For Santa Paws' on DVD and Blu-ray

On Santa Claus' 1600th birthday, he is given a present of a white stuffed toy puppy, which is brought to life to make Santa smile. Santa calls him 'Santa Paws', and promises to be his best friend for eternity.

The other main characters in the film are the orphaned Quinn (Kaitlyn Maher) and Will (Madison Pettis). Quinn's birth mother was a huge lover of Christmas and believing in your dreams, and young Quinn is determined to believe in her mother's dreams and in the Christmas spirit. One of the most touching scenes is of Quinn singing outside her window, which very much reminded me of Oliver's 'Where is love?' as the song is very similar.

Things take a turn for the worst when Santa (Richard Riehle) loses his memory, Paws and his magic crystal which powers his Christmas spirit; without it he will no longer be able to 'be' Santa. When he loses his memory, he becomes mortal.

Paws stumbles upon Quinn, who is instantly taken with the pup. She also believes it's a sign, as she's seen Santa Claus and he said he would do his best for her request. One of her requests was for a pup for the other girls. The adorable pup manages to bring some happiness to the girls who haven't celebrated Christmas in a long while. He even manages to capture the heart of Will, a non-believer in Santa and all things Christmas.

Even if some of the film is very Disney-predictable, this is hugely enjoyable, and a firm yuletide recommendation. To all the sensitive souls out there, this film is likely to have you laughing and crying, as it did me. The one thing that put me off was that Santa looks a bit like he's had too much botox.

Disney's The Search For Santa Paws is a heartbreaking yet breathtaking tale of companionship and love, and a feel-good movie for the entire family to enjoy, with a beautifully happy ending.
