Kinect gets home-brewed 'Predator'-style stealth mode
|NEWS - VIDEOGAME NEWS|
The Japanese continue their famous inventive streak with a dazzling early mod to the Kinect controller...
According to the latest figures, the Kinect appears to be following the pre-established mould set for Microsoft in Japan. Although its Japanese release has done slightly better than Microsoft had predicted, the controller-free Xbox 360 peripheral looks unlikely to challenge the dominance held by Sony and Nintendo. In its first full week of sales in America, game retailers are believed to have shifted over one million Kinect units; in Japan, the Kinect only managed 26,000 in the first few days, a figure that still marked an improvement on the sales predications of many top gaming analysts.
However, in the latest video to hit the web, Japanese modder Takayuki Fukatsu has proved that, not only are Japanese people buying and enjoying the Kinect, they are also taking great interest in its hardware and the modification of said hardware. Using Openframeworks and Kinect, Fukatsu managed to create a Predator-style mod for himself, meaning that, on camera, he has the same active camouflaging abilities of the 1980’s alien.
While the video is over six minutes long, it’s worth skipping to 1:30 to fully appreciate the camouflage in action. I wonder what Governor Schwarzenegger thinks of Fukatsu’s efforts? Maybe something along the lines of...”GET TO THE CHOPPA!”
