New currency revealed at GAME: bananas

A fruity barter in store - well, in three stores - for Donkey Kong fans who are up for an early start in the snow...

Donkey Kong tries to remake Monty Python's 'Self Defence Against Fresh Fruit' sketch

For years scientists have told us that we evolved from simple chimps, primitive beings unable to speak coherent English (the beasts!), solve simple algebra or able to accept the fact that bowel movements should neither be thrown nor eaten. However, in the latest marketing strategy by one of the UK’s largest high-street game stores we are being encouraged to take a step back and enjoy the simple pleasures of being an ape.

GAME, in a rather unusual (but nevertheless intriguing) press release, have confirmed that, to mark the release of Donkey Kong’s latest release for the Nintendo Wii, they will be giving a limited amount of people the chance to purchase the title in bananas, rather than pounds. The first 20 customers at just three stores around the UK will be able to swap the sexually-innuendoed fruit for a brand new copy of the game - one that has already received much critical acclaim, and looks set to be a must-have for Christmas.

Conversely, as mentioned, only the first 20 customers will be able to participate in this remarkable offer, so getting there early with bananas in hand is going to be essential.*

If you want to get hold of the game in exchange for a 'nana, here's where to go:

London
Games Stores, Oxford Street (opens at 9am)

Dudley
Game, Merry Hill (opens at 9am)

Hull
GameStation (opens at 8am)

Either way, it’s a great idea and serves two great purposes; it successfully promotes Donkey Kong and GAME while raising the banana to the top of the pecking order amongst fruit. Hang on, can I feel a ‘which fruit is best' debate coming on?
