One last hurrah for Ledger's Joker?

Ledger's cutting room floor shots may find their way into The Dark Knight Rises after all...

Despite an interview with MTV in June of 2010 in which Christopher Nolan stated that he would not revisit Heath Ledger's legendary portrayal of the Joker for his third Batman film, New Zealand website stuff.co.nz reports that Nolan is now considering the inclusion of a brief scene or scenes that would indeed involve deceased actor Heath Ledger's Joker in the upcoming sequel The Dark Knight Rises.
An anonymous source on set told stuff.co.nz that for the sake of greater "continuity" between Nolan's three Batman films, unused outtake footage of Ledger's work in The Dark Knight may be used to complete the Clown Prince of Crime's character arc. "Chris wants...to pay tribute to Heath and his portrayal of the Joker", the source explained. As it's unlikely that the footage exists to seamlessly insert Ledger into the next film's storyline, Nolan would "use these fragments of cut scenes and use CGI" to properly incorporate the Joker into the plot.
The source added that if Nolan decides to go ahead with including footage of the late actor that it would be little more than a "fleeting moment" in the film and that Ledger's inclusion would only go forward with his family's permission.
The Dark Knight Rises will debut in theaters on 20 July 2012.
