Jeremy Renner may take Mission Impossible lead from Tom Cruise

The show must go on...

Jeremy Renner, a touted actor (now confirmed) for the role of Hawkeye in the Avengers movie, may be taking over the reins of the spy/action thriller franchise from four-time lead Tom Cruise, who is currently filming Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, according to an interview with MTV.
Renner says “It’s a franchise to potentially take over...I can’t predict the future, and what they want, but that’s certainly the idea.”
Currently filming MI4 with Cruise, Renner is apparently doing a lot of training in hand-to-hand combat, but also praises Tom Cruise's insistence on being deeply involved in stunt-work for the third sequel: "Tom has been doing loads. He’s crazy, that guy. It’s unbelievable. He’s fearless. He’s great to watch. He inspires me to want to be better."
The filming of Mission Impossible 4 has gained some useful publicity lately by some ambitious stunt-work in the towers of Dubai, and we don't have much doubt that Shadowlocked writer Scott Nye is looking forward to seeing Cruise in action again.
