Supey heading to Africa and Anne Hathaway rumoured to be Lois Lane...

Some basic details and peripheral rumours have emerged about the settings and casting for Zack Snyder's Superman: Man of Steel, which is set to begin filming mid 2011.

According to basic character breakdowns released to casting agencies, the film will focus very largely on Clark Kent (nothing new there, Superman himself costs a fortune) and will be set in Smallville, Metropolis and - more surprisingly - West Africa, where young Clark will be seeking to sort out the differences between two warring tribes.

According to the details leaked, the basic emotional dynamic of Man Of Steel seems to be that young Clark is resistant to using his powers in any kind of overbearing way, arguably with little or no thought of becoming any kind of super-hero - but that bitter experiences in West Africa send him in thoughtful mode back to Smallville to reconsider what he ought to be offering the world.

Additionally, and with rather less concrete sources, Anne Hathaway is apparently in the running for Lois Lane. The Man Of Steel casting parade could be going on a long time - for instance, Claire Danes was cast at literally the very last minute for Terminator 3. I'm guessing that this is one particular role-race that Megan Fox might be staying out of though.

It sounds, in any case, as if Man Of Steel is pitching itself as a semi-origin story, over-stepping all that God-like business on Krypton and getting straight to the concerns of its target audience: 'What am I going to do with my life?'.

It's odd, but actually sounds pretty interesting.
