Big Bang Theory - 'The Irish Pub Formulation'

"The Irish Pub Formulation"

Somewhere in the back of my mind I think I associated the short break that Walter and Co. are giving us over at Fringe division with the schedule of our beloved geeks in Big Bang Theory, but this is a far more OCD-driven and punctual bunch of scientists. Sorry for the delay...

Lonely Leonard lucks out big time this week, living up to the show's title as Raj's hot sister passes through California for a day and practically tears his clothes off. Only problem is that this is Raj's sister, about whom Leonard and Howard had made a 'pinkie-swear' years earlier to never hit on her out of respect for Raj.

Actually, that's far from the only problem. Despite the lovers' best clandestine machinations, Sheldon discovers that Pria has spent the night at the apartment with Leonard, and Sheldon's pathological inability to keep a secret threatens to cause some nasty ripples at the canteen table.

In the end, it turns out that it was Leonard who didn't think things through when deciding to hide his tryst from the gang, who are all insanely curious to know why he missed the previous night's episode of Caprica. Put on the spot, Leonard has no time for anything but Sheldon's absurd storyline about Leonard meeting and seducing a flaxen-haired bar-wench in an Irish pub the previous evening.

In the end our hero relents and triggers off a mass-confession of past sins from everyone at the table, including Howard's admittance to Raj that foreigners don't really have to wash their hosts' laundry on the fourth of July. Raj's own admittance that he once used Sheldon's toothbrush as a gum-massager is only redeemed on the promise of a fully functional Thomas The Tank Engine to Sheldon for thanksgiving.

Followers of BBT will, like me, have been racking their brains for the missing episode where Pria and Leonard first met up, until it was finally revealed to be a pre-series event.

Congrats to the writers for misdirecting us on how the beans would be spilt about Leonard's nocturnal activities. It seems like pretty much everyone but the coffee-boy write this episode, but it was a good one, with a nice insight into the depth and detail of Sheldon's medicine cabinet and train obsession and a respite for Leonard from his recent self-pity, even if Pria rejected his predictable over-reaction to her interest in him.

Kaley Cuoco's broken leg is still keeping her away from BBT, but it's not hurting the quality so far.
