The population of Middle Earth is growing as Peter Jackson gears up...
The strong rumour that The Office and The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy lead Martin Freeman is set to front The Hobbit has been confirmed, along with a slew of other role-specific casting confirmations.
Deadline caught the news that Peter Jackson has decided on Freeman for Bilbo Baggins. Jackson is quoted as saying: "There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave–exactly like Bilbo, and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit."
Other casting confirmations include Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield, John Callen as Oin, Mark Hadlow as Dori, Stephen Hunter as Bombur, Peter Hambleton as Gloin, Graham McTavish as Dwalin and Aidan Turner and Rob Kazinsky as Kili and Fili.
Stephen Fry, Bill Nighy and Saoirse Ronan are also said to be in the running for a place in the long-awaited return to Middle Earth.
