Jeremy Renner in final talks to play Hawkeye in The Avengers?

The charismatic, Oscar-nominated The Hurt Locker, S.W.A.T., and 28 Weeks Later actor (and Angel guest-star) is reportedly in final negotiations to play Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, in Marvel’s 2012 blockbuster, after rumours linking him to the role in November.
The cast for the superhero team-up flick is said to include Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Don Cheadle as War Machine. The cast are reportedly taking salary cuts to keep costs down.
Though The Hulk may also feature, there’s currently no deal in place for Edward Norton to reprise the character, probably due to creative disagreements with the studio over The Incredible Hulk. Norton has previously said that if fans want him to play the character, then they should write to Marvel and tell them.
Marvel has not confirmed that Renner is in talks.
If Joss Whedon is indeed directing and reworking Zak Penn’s script, then he’s got a highly talented ensemble cast to work with.
