Nathan Fillion to play Hank Pym, a.k.a. Ant-Man?

An Ant-Man’s gotta do what an Ant-Man’s gotta do...

Everyone’s a hero in their own way, and it looks like Marvel’s tiniest character will also be their shiniest. In a piece speculating about which Marvel character the actor Kevin Pennington might play, an unconfirmed “Inside Source” mentions that Castle star Nathan Fillion is “pretty much locked” to play Hank Pym. This would mean that he could potentially feature in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man (though the film apparently centres on Scott Lang, the second Ant-Man, whereas Hank Pym is the first), and could also possibly reunite with his Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Serenity, and Doctor Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog director Joss Whedon on an Avengers film. Apparently Edgar Wright has met with Stan Lee, Jon Favreau, and Joss Whedon at various points, so it seems that Marvel’s taking seriously the task of trying to make sure that the Ant-Man film fits into the Avengers continuity.
Fillion’s dexterity at handling both comedy and seriousness makes him a perfect fit for both Wright and Whedon’s directorial styles, not to mention a comic book universe. He’s no stranger to the superhero world, having played parts in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Justice League cartoon, the animated Wonder Woman film, Doctor Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog, and James Gunn’s upcoming tongue-in-cheek genre entry Super, not to mention playing Firefly’s Captain Malcolm Reynolds, who has the superpower of utter awesomeness.
