Three new posters hit the web for the return of the hi-tech space hunters...

The Italian version of Coming Soon has been granted three exclusive posters for the Robert Rodriguez re-boot of the Predator franchise, starring Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, and Walt Goggins.

I don't know what exactly it is about Adrien Brody that makes me unable to see him as an action hero. For one thing, if there was a Star Trek-style 'anti-Statham', this is the man. Nothing wrong with his unusual physignomy or undoubted acting kudos, and admittedly Peter Jackson often wrong-footed him in a similar role in King Kong (2005) in favour of the female lead, but Mr. Brody seems more fitting in intellectual or cerebral fare such as The Pianist (2002) or The Jacket (2005). But while he's not got the Worthington-touch yet, Hollywood is determined to test his limits as an action hero, and so he'll be facing off against the cinematic space-hunters in the fifth film featuring the hi-tech species, this summer.

The problem for me with the franchise is not necessarily that the Predators themselves are an unfrightening creation, even if they do seem somewhat Klingon in many ways and therefore slightly mis-placed anywhere out of the Star Trek universe - it's that they have yet to feature in one damn film where I really cared about the characters (including the original).

Perhaps the emotive skills of Mr. Brody have been brought into this project to redress that imbalance...
