The Norse God reveals himself for the first time...

Marvel and Paramount have got a jump on early publicity for 2011's Thor by releasing a pic of actor Chris Hemsworth in the role. No sign of his huge hammer, but he does look as preoccupied as any denizen of a Bergman film, doesn't he?

Based on the Marvel Comics hero, the story follows the actions of one of Asgard's more recalcitrant denizens, the Norse god Thor, who (much as Doctor Who got bored with Gallifrey) finds himself meddling in human affairs when he should be up in the clouds drinking nectar. The romance element isn't missing either, as Thor falls for Earth-bound love Natalie Portman - who's no doubt set to be in particular danger when the Asgardian nasties decide to follow their prodigal refugee to Earth and start a war we're ill-equipped to fight.

The movie comes out May 6th 2011, and is directed by British thespian Kenneth Branagh, who was reported last year to be seduced by the neo-Shakespearean and epic nature of the script.
