Jonah Hex early reviews: 'The worst film of 2010'?

Pre-release screening mostly puts the film in the spitoon...

Tain't lookin' good for Jonah Hex...

A whole series of reviews have cropped up for a pre-release screening of Jonah Hex at AICN. The version of the supernatural western that was screened apparently lacked completed sound and a few visual effects, but it sounds like (what had been originally intended as) a locked work-print.

In general, the news from the various reviewers who attended the screening at the Bridge in Los Angeles aren't exactly raving wild about this particular wild west outing. The least criticism is aimed at main star Josh Brolin, who is said to have turned in a 'a serviceable job'. Another reviewer is more enthusiastic:

"Josh Brolin...does a great job as Jonah. The character is a mix of The Man with No Name and John Constantine. He’ll kill a few guys silently, say a short sarcastic one liner and then pick up a dead guy and interrogate his rotting spirit. He’s pretty good throughout the whole thing"

But even this compliment leads one fan of the original John Albano/Tony DeZuniga comic to dig his spurs in...

"In the most bizarre change from source material, Hex can speak to the dead. He literally grabs them, and they reanimate, made fully flesh, and he interrogates them for information. Handy! I’ve only been reading Hex since the relaunch, but I never saw any stupid, supernatural bullshit where he could communicate with the deceased. This one was baffling to me. Why do this? He’s a gunslinger and a bounty hunter. You can’t tell an interesting story with that? You have to make him supernatural?"

In general, the summaries on the quality of Jonah Hex as a film are on the negative side:

"Even with low expectations this film was a complete and utter mess."

"The editing lacked polish, but I'm not sure any amount of polish or music can help this turd"

"...it's just bland. The climax is really boring, there is no romance (despite their weak attempts), and the movie just really lacks character moments."

And perhaps most damningly:

"Be prepared, folks. It’s early in the year, but I think this could be the worst film of 2010."

Megan Fox fans should avoid the link below, too...
