Universal to pick up 'Maximum Ride'?
|NEWS - MOVIE NEWS|
They're young, they fly, and they're being chased by mutated wolves...
HR has the scoop on Universal being on the verge of picking up the Catherine Hardwicke-helmed youth/magic property Maximum Ride.
The potential franchise issues from a series of books by James Patterson detailing the adventures of 'The Flock', an X-Men-style group of youths who are part-human, part-avian. When our heroes escape from the nasty lab in which they're being concocted and experimented upon, they're pursued by side-breed 'The Erasers', who are part-human and part-wolf.
So it's a bit X-Men, a bit Underworld....presumably the evil creators had no flying creatures left to chase after the winged refugees...? Those buggers are going to have to run real fast...
The project was put in turnaround by Sony, who are determined to rescue the Spiderman 4 situation and concentrate on that reboot/sequel/whatever to grab the same market that Maximum Ride is aimed at.
Catherine Hardwicke remains attached as director for the moment, with father and son team Avi Arad and Ari Arad producing.
