Robin Hood first look in secret NYC screening
|NEWS - MOVIE NEWS|
Ridley Scott's take on the verdant legend premieres unofficially in New York...
Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe as the eponymous re-distributor of medieval wealth, premiered yesterday in a secret showing to press junket folk and possibly a select handful of card-fillers.
Universal pictures will be pleased at 411's report that the film 'works', since it has a surprisingly large production, pre-production and marketing budget to accommodate before the coffers really begin to swell - somewhere in the region of $500 million. Pre-Scott contributors Brian Helgeland and Tom Stoppard are only a few of the folk who will have to be back-handed out of the box-office gross, despite a completely new start when Ridley Scott took the project on. Additionally the cheaper cost of a London premiere was obviated by Britain's no-fly zone during the recent Volcano Fiasco, which moved several recent PR lauinches stateside at greater expense.
411 report that the laughs were in all the right places throughout the premiere, and that Crowe and Blanchett have 'good chemistry' together - so hopefully Mr. Scott is not in a frantic session of recutting as we write.
The film opens on May 12th.
