Jaws for 3D re-release?

No, not that Dennis Quaid disaster from 1983..the original Spielberg movie...

AICN have picked up on producer Daryl Zanuck's interest in giving Steven Spielberg's Jaws (1975) a 3D re-release.
The LA Times source piece says: Zanuck and Spielberg spoke a few years ago about going back to the original film with the digital paintbrush of CG effects to create a more horrific predator. They decided, for the time being, to leave the film alone, although Zanuck says he is intrigued by the notion of adding 3D effects to the 1976 classic for a theatrical re-release.
To be honest, the 'special edition' DVD release of Jaws in the early/mid noughties was a bit dismal regarding extras, and the time has surely come to at least get this classic out there in hi-definition. But a 3D 'post-job'? AICN considers the newly-released Clash Of The Titans a dismal rush-job in terms of adding 3D after-the-fact, as opposed to the far better treatment applied to Tim Burton's 3D version of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Jaws has some considerable potential to be effective in three dimensions - think of the scene where the guts are being thrown out of the captured shark, and we're all terrified of what ghastly human remnant may be heading towards us; or the 'surprise head'. But most of all, the sheer distance between the action that takes place on the boat and the ocean horizon could really increase the sense of isolation.
Jaws doesn't need a 3D release, but it might be more fun than many of the conversions currently being talked about, and presumably it would kick-start a decent disc release as well. With, dare we hope, a Spielberg commentary...?
