I was amused to find the above picture of what seems mighty similar to the fossilised remains of one of the spice-worms from Frank Herbert's Dune.

The picture was taken in New Mexico by Flickr stalwart Pixelmonkey, (direct link to pic here), and the tripartite mouth, so effective in swallowing up guild miners, seems fairly intact.
